The BC Museum of Mining has 15 historic buildings in its care that together formed part of the mining community of Britannia Beach. The oldest building dates from around 1905, while the youngest dates from around 1951. From the landmark of the Mill Building, to the inconspicuous pump house, each has a story to tell. You'll also see several other historic buildings throughout Britannia Beach that still stand as a reminder of the once great mining town.
Preserving the Past
The ravages of BC's coastal climate can take their toll on old buildings. Fortunately, we have been able to spend capital funds on building preservation, restoration and rehabilitation. For more information about terms relating to heritage buildings, please visit Heritage BC.
Take a look at some of the projects that have been made possible thanks to the generous donations of individuals, businesses and grants, for which we are extremely grateful. This includes the Direct Access Charitable Gaming Grant and Museums Assistance Programme. What a difference!
