The BC Museum of Mining has over 7,000 images in our Collection and it is our goal to find the best way to give them meaning, as they are one of the key ways we can bring the Britannia Story to life. We have photographs mainly because of the generosity of former residents and their families, who have donated them into our care.

The majority of these photographs have been digitized, though most are at a low resolution. We have made some of them available here, and aim to increase the number of online copies over time.

Currently we have photos available from the Anaconda Collection, from the period of 1967 - 1974. They illustrate a period of Britannia Beach's history, right before the mine closed. After closure, Britannia dramatically changed and many of the community's activities, parades and diverse social life began to be redefined. We invite you to take a look at the photographs and reflect back to how life must have been in this resource-based coastal community.

If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the photographs for publication purposes, please see our Research Policy. We have some higher resolution photographs available to download, free, for education purposes.
