Our Mission
The BC Museum of Mining will inspire the exploration of individual and societal connections to British Columbia's mining; past, present and future.
Who Are We?
Peruse our list of Board of Directors and you'll immediately see that the Britannia Beach Historical Society (BBHS), who governs the BC Museum of Mining , is an organization of worth - an organization that has at its heart your interest in achieving greater mining awareness.
As Board Directors, these eminent mining and business individuals give their full support to the team of professional staff who have spent many years in the Museum sector, inspiring, engaging and informing the public.
The BBHS was incorporated in 1971 to preserve BC's mining heritage and to educate the public, through exhibits and public programming, about mining through the establishment of the BC Museum of Mining , which is both a National Historic Site and a BC Historic Landmark. Moving into the 21st Century, where sustainability and leadership are key stories to be told by the industry, and where Britannia Beach is the scene of an environmental turnaround success story, the Museum is the perfect stage for public engagement. Couple this with our strong relationships with partners that include Teck Cominco, Golder Associates and EPCOR, and you will see that the BC Museum of Mining is a valuable educational resource to the mining industry.
The Museum is a self-sustaining, non-profit organization who aims to operate deficit-free. We rely primarily on the revenues we earn through admissions, tenancies, site rentals and gift store. We also rely on a variety of capital grants where we have a strong application success record. Since we are not government or mining industry owned we have no annual base operating revenues. We have to our credit a notable success record with our many applications for grants that aid in both capital projects and operations. We are able to meet both the expectations of granting agencies and our own priorities and are experts in making the best use of the resources available to us.
If you would like to know a bit more about us, you can read more on our sections on key staff, education principles and recent capital projects.
Who Are Our Audiences?
Who will your donation help us to inspire, engage and inform? Our audiences include local, national and international tourists, residents of surrounding communities including Greater Metro Vancouver, and crucially, students from schools to universities. They come to experience the fun and thrill of our underground train ride and gold panning opportunities, and leave happy, with a better understanding of our society's connection to mining.
