Our stunning, cathedral-like historic Mill 3 building, 400 m long underground tunnel and unoccupied historic buildings have made the BC Museum of Mining a popular site for filming over the years. The Mill and tunnel are favourites with directors, with science fiction and horror being the two most popular genres. Our site supports all genres of filming, including period dramas and contemporary settings. With a backdrop of the beautiful Howe Sound and surrounding mountains also, this is truly a unique filming venue.
The BC Museum of Mining has a 'can do' attitude in regards to filming. You will find there is little in the way of red tape (clearances and permits) as Britannia Beach is an unincorporated village. When filming on site, our movie liaison coordinator will work with you to ensure everything runs smoothly.
We have a comprehensive movie package available that showcases our 'one stop shopping' services. Even though our site is quite diverse with filming opportunities, our fee schedule has been simplified to fit your specific requirements. We also hire parking space for those behind-the-scenes needs if you are filming in another part of Britannia Beach.
Since 2007, the exterior rehabilitation of Mill 3 has changed its appearance, bringing it back to its former glory in the early years of operation. The interior of the building remains unchanged however, offering an abundance of rusting piping, ageing concrete and a multi-level maze of 'hiding places'.
Over 50 films and dozens of TV series have utilized the diversity that is Britannia Beach, (see 'In The Movies' for some listings that include Scooby Doo Too and the X-Files).
Keep in mind that our site is an ideal location for a movie wrap party, as well. Please call the number below at extension 225 for more information.
